What to expect
Whether you’re beginning your yoga journey or looking to deepen your practice, our 200 Hour Teacher Training Program meets you where you are. All are welcome. No prior training or experience is required.

Style/Lineage
The American Yoga Academy has its roots in the Hatha Yoga style as taught by Claire Diab under Deepak Chopra. We teach a welcoming, inclusive blend of traditional and modern Hatha Yoga. Our accessible style welcomes students from all backgrounds and abilities and empowers them to teach yoga, meditation, breathwork, chair yoga, mindfulness, relaxation techniques, and more with skill and confidence. Students graduate fully prepared and certified to teach students of all ages and abilities both nationally and internationally.

By the end of this program, graduates will be able to…
- Discuss the vedic history of yoga and the core ethical teachings of the yamas and niyamas as it relates to modern life.
- Apply The 7 Spiritual Laws of Success as taught by Deepak Chopra to their life and teaching
- Demonstrate effective instruction through professional cueing, mirroring, and postures, using the 5 steps to teaching a pose.
- Understand how to present oneself with professionalism and the business aspects of the yoga industry for successful careers
- Describe the physical and mental benefits of the yoga postures in the AYA signature yoga sequence.
- Apply an understanding of the anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics, for safe practice and instruction, including the function and safe range of motion of major joints in yoga.
- Practice yoga positions including standing, sitting, kneeling, and laying down poses and vinyasa flows, and how to teach them with skill and compassion
- Practice chair yoga and accessible variations of traditional yoga poses using a variety of props and tools such as blocks, bolsters, and yoga straps.
- Practice a number meditation and mindfulness techniques including mantra, yoga nidra, yin yoga, and restorative postures, safely and competently.
- Sequence and Teach Chair Yoga for all levels ensuring classes are inclusive and welcoming
- Teach all core yoga positions (including standing, sitting, kneeling, and laying down) with skill and compassion
- Teach yoga practices authentically and compassionately as a student-focused instructor rather than a performer.
- Demonstrate safe and respectful hands-on assists in a variety of yoga postures.
- Design and Teach a variety of different style classes using the AYA's signature yoga sequence as a springboard.

WRITTEN EXAM: Students submit short summaries of each online learning module as they complete them. This fosters reflection, encourages deeper exploration, builds communication with mentors, and requires future instructors to articulate their thoughts. TEACHING EVALUATION: Students create a 15-minute video of themselves teaching a sequence they feel comfortable with. They may choose from provided options or design their own. After review, they receive a one-on-one feedback session with an instructor to identify opportunities for improvement and celebrate successes. SPECIAL PROJECT: To personalize learning, students select a health or wellness topic that inspires them and spend about 4 hours exploring it through reading, workshops, media, interviews, podcasts, expos, etc. They then submit a written or video reflection in any language, focusing on what they discovered.
