Purpose

The 200-hour teacher training utilizes the L.I.T. methodology to expand personal practice and develop the skills to share yoga with others.

What to expect

For dedicated practitioners who wish to deepen and share yoga, this program follows the L.I.T. methodology through a blend of self-paced study and guided mentorship. This will also cover Alignment, Technique, and Anatomy of the essential Hatha and Vinyasa Yoga postures. Students must complete video lessons, quizzes, and practice teaching assignments, attend 20 hours of livestream sessions, and participate in group accountability. The program also includes six months of mentorship and community support to ensure integration and confidence in teaching.

Style/Lineage

This training follows Matt Giordano’s L.I.T. methodology, a systematic approach to help students reach their highest potential on and off the mat. It blends Hatha and Vinyasa postures, applied anatomy, pranayama, meditation, mantra, and philosophy into an integrated, modern-day yogi practice. The focus is on the integrated knowledge and the structure to properly embody it.

Core competencies

By the end of this program, graduates will be able to…

Anatomy, Physiology, Biomechanics
  • Discuss essential asana from all posture categories (standing, seated, inversions, arm balances) including proper alignment, biomechanics, teaching techniques, and relevant anatomical considerations.
  • Develop a deeper awareness of embodied anatomy by accurately linking anatomical terms to the sensations of muscle actions and joint movements.
Yoga History & Theory
  • Discuss the philosophical concepts of the yoga sutras and how they may be applied through open-minded interpretation to guide both mind and body in living a wholesome, balanced and free life.
  • Give your class purpose by weaving philosophy into your teaching and directly applying it to movement and breath practices
Practice Skills
  • Practice pranayama, meditation, and mantra for self-inquiry using these as tools to release mental, emotional, or energetic patterns that no longer serve you
  • Practice essential postures from the curriculum using safe biomechanics, with both ease and strength, and using props appropriately for your own structure.
Teaching Skills
  • Teach poses effectively and simply by communicating what you already know, using short and simple language, and cueing with appropriate tempo and timing
  • Teach asana while identifying and mitigating any potentially dangerous or inefficient alignment or patterns that could lead to discomfort.
  • Demonsrate the biomechanics of each posture using effective self-adjustment
  • Effectively demonstrate postures for visual learners effect in three scenarios: while walking, at the front of the room, or in the center of the room.
  • Design a 60-minute chromatic class sequence that intentionally addresses target areas of the body to a peak pose and effectively orders the postures from simplest to most complex.

AYC allows each school to state and evaluate the competencies each student acquires. Students rate how well the program delivered them.
